Jim Stukel is the Principal-in-Charge, and provides leadership to every project. With nearly 30 years of construction experience he’s successfully managed over $1B in construction projects.

Jim’s career in construction started in 1984 with Turner Construction in Boston. During his time in Boston, Jim worked on many high-profile projects including Burroughs Wharf, Flagship Wharf, Two International Place and 125 Summer Street.

In 1989, Turner moved Jim to New York where he played a critical role in building a new line of business — Turner Interiors. While in New York, Jim led projects for several F500 clients, including Price Waterhouse, Bank of Tokyo, New York Life, and Coopers & Lybrand. During his tenure, Turner Interiors grew from $5M a year to a $50M a year.

From New York, Jim moved with Turner to Chicago, where he led high-profile projects including the renovation of the Bismarck Palace Theater, Prairie Ridge High School, May & Spey office building, and the Democratic National Convention in 1994.

In 1998, Jim returned to Boston to support the launch a new division for Shawmut Design & Construction, a (then) small construction firm. Jim started as a Project Executive in the Restaurant and Retail Group, leading multiple projects throughout the United States, including Dave & Busters, Rockport Shoes, French Connection UK, DKNY and The Discovery Channel Stores. In 2004, Jim was named Vice President, in charge of the Commercial Group. One of the most high-profile assignments in Jim’s career at Shawmut was the Construction Management of the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

After the financial crisis at the end of 2008, and prior to starting The Stukel Group, Jim sought out entrepreneurial opportunities with a number of smaller construction companies. Jim’s projects included BJ Wholesale, Progress Software, High Rollers at Foxwoods, Red Lantern in Boston, Harbor Health – Neponset Health Center, Harbor Health, Geiger Gibson Health Center, Azee Pharmaceuticals, Massachusetts Hospital Association, and others.

Jim is an active community member and enjoys coaching his sons in American Youth Football, Little League, and Recreational Basketball. Jim has also been called to be an Expert Witness and has an Unrestricted Massachusetts Supervisor License.

Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois.
